I like these “anything goes” events, so much more interesting than the meeting nearest me, which effectively has bouncers and caters to the tech/financebro and dirty money devilspawn crowds who are given so much in this new Belle Epoque.

Sadly the guy at the “gate” handling parking is kind of a douche. If you show up in something “not normal”, he tries to park you on the side road with the spectators. Otherwise the rest of the crowd/staff there are super cool.

Can you just park where you want once you get in anyway?

Around here, it seems very tied to the value of the car. Pristine Pinto wagon = no dice. Another cloned new McLa ren   fresh off the lot funded by daddy’s (sometimes ill-gotten) gold = welcome aboard.

They just line them up, make/model/value have no bearing. It’s first come, first parked.

Here it’s just the usual old car guy thing, “Ba, what is that doing here, it’s not a classic !”.

I pulled in last night and he’s like “Oh, you can go park on Prospector street and walk down to check out the cars”

I said “Oh, this isn’t a Cruise In?”

He then looks the van up and down and says “Oh........Special Interest?”

I said “Whatever you gotta call it to feel better about yourself”, then proceeded to pull in, where the guys parking were ecstatic to see/talk about the van.

That’s the way such a casual event should be - run what you’ve brung, park where there’s space, all are welcome. I hope this mentality becomes more common as a new generation of enthusiasts becomes more active. There’s a lot to the car world other than tri-chevies/muscle cars or late model exotics.

Funny thing, an early Caravan/Voyager is a legit milestone car, while many embraced older cars are not.

Honestly, I feel like that mentality is turning a lot of people off from the car scene.

I get it, you don’t want every teenager in their hooptie showing up, but at least have some respect for vehicles that clearly have a lot of time/effort into them.

I won’t attend the local weekly event for that reason. I can see guillotine fodder in supercars on city streets every day. The rest I have seen before.

I’d be more interested in the 20 year old Civic a kid put their heart and soul into, or a perfectly preserved 1984 Mopar van , than something just bought and shown off.

It wouldn’t hurt my feelings at all if they omitted fresh off the showroom new cars completely.

I get the restored/survivor classics, but I can see a Chalarostang anywhere, you’re not special guys. That slammed Belair Wagon or Rat Rod is far more interesting and likely has a way better story behind it.

The thing car guys need to realize ( and yes we are all guilty of it ): The younger crowd is the future of our hobby, if you shut them out or shun them, the hobby will die off.

I may not like something, but I can look at it and respect the work involved, or the love that went in to keep it pristine. One thing I noticed last night, many people reminisce about the past without realizing how long ago it was. Chatting with an older couple about my van they started talking about the one they had for carrying their family when they were younger, then they realized that that was over 20 years ago. At that point they walked around the van again and realized all the love/care that went in to make/keep it what it is today, it was at that point I gained their utmost respect.
